Many of our handmade wooden utensil listings have a "sapwood accent" variation. What does that mean?
The sapwood is the living cells right under the bark and is typically lighter in color than the heartwood. Most woodworkers do not use the sapwood, but we like the visual interest it adds to our work. We dry the work naturally to an even moisture content so the work is in no way compromised.
Many of our bowls also feature sapwood, particularly the larger bowls, maximizing the material as much as possible.
